The Model: The introduction of the first 6-series came in 1976, as a new design direction for BMW. The 6-series is an elegant luxury coupe with aggressive "shark-nose" styling pinned by BMW's lead designer Paul Brauq. In 1983, the BMW Motorsports division developed a high performance variant of the E24 series, known as the M635SCi, for the European market. In 1987, after much demand and waiting from the North American market, BMW offered the M6. The BMW Motorsports developed twin-cam, 24-valve inline-six-cylinder engines powered the car. Known as the codes M88 or S38, both were derived from the engine used in the legendary BMW M1 sports car. Larger front air dam, a rear spoiler, BBS wheels, color matching side view mirrors, M badges on the grille and back, and slightly larger front brakes distinguish the M6 from other E24 models. The original MSRP price 1987 for the M6 was around $58,000 (about $120,000 in today’s dollar). For the U.S. market, the BMW M6 production ran from 1987 to 1989, with a total of 1,632 built.
The Car: This M6 is a great example of originality, beauty and pride of ownership, owing to a BMW enthusiast's care and attention. The Cinnabar Red (Zinnoberrot) factory paint is very striking and beautiful. The clean original interior is classic BMW styling that blends luxury and sports car features: fully adjustable leather Recaro-style sport bucket seats, soft Nappa leather interior, door panels and headliner, dual (front and rear) A/C controls, and the perfect driver-focused leather M steering wheel. This M6 remains mechanically strong with recent service attention, including updated suspension, a new water pump, A/C compressor, and brake master cylinder, full brake service, and much more. The factory stock M-Power 258 hp 3.5L inline-six is smooth and solid. The factory 5-speed manual transmission shifts with precision. Exceptionally clean and dry under chassis. Original owner manual, service booklets and extensive service records from new. This BMW M6 may seem like newcomer to the classic world, yet it is known as a legendary elegant Grand Tourer.
