'97 Carrera S - Looking at the details
1997 Porsche 911 Carrera S (993)
A local customer called and asked for some help with his newly purchased garage find. A simple request for help. "Look the car over and tell me what it needs to make it perfect and correct. The car was already an extremely nice car, but I understand wanting to have everything checked off. Like any 10 plus year old car, there will be some needs that could be addressed.
The 993 (911) Carrera S (C2S and C4S) are kind of rare cars. The main feature that made the "S" 993 variants different from the standard 993 was the shared the body shell with the 993 TURBO. Wider body panels, revised front/rear bumpers, turbo look-a-like wheels, and turbo brakes/suspension. Everyone loves the look of the Turbo
I thought I would just share a few of the items we helped with.
The original black gaskets at the door handles were breaking down and looking ugly. New black plastic gasket were installed. New again. Photos only show new gaskets.
Customer had a problem with the horn. The horn was very sensitive and was beeping on it's own. What could go wrong? Aged 4 corner rubber bushing that kept the horn from making contact at rest was not able to hold the contact points from touching. A new replacement horn mount cured the issue.
A very minor oil leak at the transmission input shift shaft.
Gauge face. The plastic housing for the tachometer did the typical break/crack at the lens ring. After removing the tach we outsourced the repair with Seattle Speedometer, a specialist for gauge repair and restoration.
What's this, a broken chip out of an air duct/deflector under the front suspension for the left front brake. Minor thing, but worth fixing.
This last image just shows the new hood shocks are installed. So nice when they stay open.
We did several other things, but they were all small and photos were not always taken.
