For the 1974 year model Porsche introduces a new revised chassis, known as the G-Series 911. A number of changes, from new body work, interior, and engine, but what is possibly the most common feature that defined the new 911 was the bumper design. The US Federal government require auto makers to meet new safety and emission standards/regulations, therefore Porsche created their own impact bumper styling, and the visual style defined or named all G-series 911s from 1974 to 1989 – The Impact Bumper 911. Although, the bumpers may have become the models distinctive feature, the G-series is also the model series that defined what a Porsche is to them. The chassis was light, strong and was used in so many of Porsche's legendary production race cars. The first of the G-series cars (1974-1977) had a then new magnesium flat-six engine with a displacement of 2.7 liters with fuel injection (CIS). Transmission options were 5 speed manuals or a 4 speed Sport-o-matic (automatic) manual.
This car truly is in excellent condition for it's age. A great example of Porsche 911 history. A very original, unrestored and wonderful driving car. The exterior still has most of it's original factory paint (two panels were repainted). Some people would refer to the car as a survivor, yet I would say it more of a very well kept and loved car from it's previous owners. The condition of the original glass, rubber seals, trim and body panels are excellent. The unique Aubergine (purple) paint color retails a great finish/shine with only light blemishes (rock chips) from normal road use and natural aging. The 15 inch Fuchs wheels are in unrestored and great condition. Tires are in good condition, Yokohama brand. During this era, all 1974 911 came with one side mirror (driver's side), and this one was delivered with the chrome finish (non painted) to match the chrome (white) fog lights. This car is a non-sunroof car, which increases interior headroom and gives the roof a cleaner appearance.
The interior on this car is very well preserved with light wear and aging. Carpet is in wonderful or excellent clean condition. Drivers seats show some aging with wear on as well as a tear at the stitching seam. The gauges have clear lens and work as expected. A great working vintage Blaupunkt radio with manual lift antenna. Climate control panel works, blowing fan and good heat. The dealer installed A/C system is complete and hooked up, but not charged. The A/C fan motor works well, but we did not attempt to charge the A/C system. Great condition headline. What is so nice with cars like this 911 is the clear fact that it wasn't messed with over the years. The interior on this 911 is very original outside the dark brown 911S floor mats, a period correct floor mat, but not correct to this car. Most likely the mats were installed back when the car was newer. A set of Coco Mats would look great in this car.
Mechanically this 911 is great. Being the base model 911 in 1974, the 2.7L flat six developed 143 HP. The original engine in this car runs great with great performance. A few years ago the engine received a major engine out service with the aging oil seals replace during the service. Upgraded oil feed chain tensioners were also installed. Today, the engine is still very dry for a 2.7L with only light weeping. The 5-speed manual was professionally gone through and serviced, and a new clutch was install during the major service. Shifts smooth through all gears. The car is regularly driven. Some noted recent service work as well as condition.
Fluid change (motor oil, transmission, and brake)
Inline aluminum aircraft oil cooler - installed at the "S" hose
Replace transmission seal at shift input
Replaced original fuel hose at pump
Front and rear brake rotors - on-car machine turned to resurface rotors. Within spec, brake pads have more than 75% remaining.
Various items were replaced due to age. i.e. sway bar bushings, fog light relay, reverse light bulb, etc
Some noted past improvements/mechanical care
Oil pressure fed, timing chain tensioner
930 lower valve covers
Engine resealed - stock condition
Transmission - reconditioned
This car is an example of what makes the 911 special. It’s a piece of history as well as a great car. In our opinion, it doesn't get much better or unique. A great color and fun car to drive. Porsche cars like this are not common to come across. This is a beautiful car that deserves an owner that appreciates it's originality and condition. We see the car being more of collectors item with limited use. Of course the owner can do what they wish, and we always think the cars should be driven. Yet it would be great to see this car preserved, as the original cars are becoming more rare.
If next owner wants to daily drive, or take long summer road trips, or have working A/C – we would recommend having a front fender oil cooler installed if you live in hotter climates. Front fender oil cooler was a common add-on for these early G-series 2.7 911s, for cooler engine temps during summers / city driving. As for preserving the originality of the car, it would be better to leave the car in it’s stock original configuration.
The car comes with Porsche CoA, a file folder of service records from the past two owner going back to 1988, very nice tool set kit, jack and two keys.
