DRIVE OZ - An Ozark Rally
For 2019 a new classic car rally was held in the Ozark Mountains. Drive OZ, the Ozark rally came about for one Porsche guys passion for driving. Patrick Ossenkop is the one with drive to create an event that shares what the roads in the Ozarks have to offer. Beyond the road the region has great food, unique place and beautiful vistas. Patrick reached out and invited like minded vintage drivers to come and explore the great roads throughout the Ozarks. A two day event with about 250-300 miles traveled each day.
The start of the Drive OZ rally was held at the Thaden Fieldhouse. Breakfast was at the Louise, which is at the same location. This year, before our drivers meeting, we had the privilege of receiving a tour of the hanger and club house at Thaden Field.
Although we were all excited to drive the back roads, we were concerned with the weather. Living in the Ozarks we know that the weather is not that predictable. One thing for sure we didn’t want the clouds, wet roads and the uncertainties of a first event keep us for enjoying the drive.
There was a great turnout for some really cool and diehard Porsche rally gentleman. One drove down from Colorado and three drove up from Texas. All of which were newbies to the Ozark mountain region.
I think it’s safe to say that most of the drive was on wet or damp roads, but we did have a few hours of rather dry roads. The wet roads kept everyone a little on edge of adhesion.
